For this project, I wanted to work with my last focus on more humor in my films. This one would be unique in that the main character would be toast/a sandwich. I thought about how much my family makes sandwiches, and I thought it would be interesting from the sandwich's point of view.
-The first scene would introduce the toast and the man who is in the kitchen to make a sandwich. The bread is viewed at its own viewpoint, as the man pulls it out of the bread wrapper.
-The bread would first be toasted. There will be a close up of the toaster, emphasizing the burning and heat.
-The next scene will have the man getting the ingredients, and he applies mayonnaise to the side of the toast. The camera focuses in again, and the scrape noises are emphasized.
-The next scene, the man places the layers of meat on the toast, crushing the elements against each other
-The man pulls out a knife, and the close up shot is seen of the sandwich being stabbed and sliced in half, and the mayonnaise spills out
-The man is seen in full view, and he slowly pulls half the sandwich up, a close up is seen of him biting down; the full view is seen again, and there's a faint yell. The man raises his eyebrow.
I mainly want to work with views and cuts from the view of the man to the closeups. The ending might need more tweaking, but I felt it added to the humor.

Oh, poor sandwich. Sandwiches are funny.
ReplyDeleteViews and cuts are a must for this video. It's a creative idea, just make sure you get a lot of close up and possibly low angle shots. Funny ending too
ReplyDeleteI really liked your last film, how you successfully followed directions yet used that theme to add a twist to the story. I thought it was very creative. This sandwich idea sounds great. Toast don't need to act! You should build up a lot of anticipation between the bread going from the wrapper to the toaster. Slice the sandwich diagonally.....it looks better that way. The humor sounds great, i'm always up for humor. I'm thinking about adding some humor to my theme of fear. I wanna use some stop-motion. Maybe crawling gloves and jack-o-lanterns that follow your every movement. I wanna keep it simple. Please comment on my outline!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a good idea, especially since your humor has worked out in past videos. You're shots are usually very well composed so I'm interested to see how this turns out. My only suggestion would be to introduce the sandwich as a character earlier... though I can't really say the best way this would be done... Perhaps if you thought of the making of the sandwich more as the birth of a sandwich you could do something with that. Kind of like the whole Fosty the snowman saying, "Happy Birthday!" kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteLisa, this sounds very funny. I hope you pick a great voice for all the components of the sandwich, if they get to talk. I think timing your sound effects with the different close up's of the meat and bread and contrasting them to the person in the kitchen will be a fun edit. I just hope the dialogue doesnt kill it.

That will be funny, good choice. Make the sandwich's dialog, if it has one, with a good voice, and dialog. The sandwich is the star.
